The signal · tap to layer

Loops are synthesised, not recorded — stack them for a unique field

The reading

Tap any source to begin, then stack more to build the field. Time runs left to right, frequency bottom to top — bass reads as thick bands, treble as fine hair. Loud energy tips into signal red.

▌ SONOGRAM

Sonogram

Every other piece here begins in silence — a date, a phrase, a photograph. This one begins with sound. Press Listen to open the microphone, or tap any of eight synthesised loops — Everything, Weird Fishes, Treefingers, Idioteque, Pyramid, The Anthem, Bloom, Lotus — evoked rather than sampled, so no track is anyone's master. Stack as many as you like: they mix through one bus and drift against each other, so the same combination rarely repeats. Whatever plays is read like a spectrograph: time left to right, frequency climbing bottom to top, amplitude turned to ink — quiet near paper, loud toward the deep, the most intense energy allowed a single note of signal red. Add or drop layers live, then Capture to freeze the window, print a paper strip, and title the plate by its peak frequency and the number of layers caught.
