Almanac

The Almanac turns a date into a document. Choose any day between 1 January 1945 and today; the page asks Wikipedia's "On this day" record what happened in that year. When the exact date holds nothing, it searches outward — one day at a time — until it finds the closest event from the year you named, so the plate is never empty and never drifts to a different era. The event's image — a face, a place, a machine — is composed to fill a square, then resolved only to the grain of memory: pixelated into coarse blocks and cast in a single violet ink, dark in the shadows, pale in the light. A paper strip across the foot carries the year as a headline, the title, and the dateline of the day it actually occurred. The result reads as a record half-developed — legible, but distorted by the act of remembering. Change the date for a new plate. Download captures it as a PNG.
